I Used to be a Superhero

I Used to be a Superhero (Preview)
...Looking out from atop
The Citizen's Bank Building, staring
wistfully like the seldom seen hawks
that used to frequent this place, I'd search
the city below, my city, for crimes
against the poor folk that I knew
would find no help in Superman
or Batman. Hell, even the Black Panther...
A Deadly Melodic Revelry (Preview)
...Their grief scouring the walls
of prison complexes.
Man or beast or
yet most expediently defined as
political fodder, no one knows
which voice cries loudest in sorrowful lament.
The difference is muffled by cement...
An Ode to the Kids in the Park (Preview)
...Much love to the kids who know,
huddled down, dew-dampened jeans
grow cold along the seams as steam rises
up and blows away from the chilled skin
exposed to the elements,...
A Middle Aged Cup of Coffee (Preview)
...Trying to discern
the intent behind such intricate
designs which dare to reveal themselves
only in millennial arcs that bend
well out beyond our understanding...
The Vanishing Man (Preview)
...the Filmmaker's Special
I’d drank and from the engagement
when my manz en nem
said to me as I headed
to the door,
Watch out, dude,
there's a serial killer
loose on the North Shore
targeting revelers
and leaving them
floating
in the Chicago River.
I laughed.
You can't be serious...
Requiem for a Cleveland Ave Warrior (Preview)
...the significance
of my birth certificate
and if they should chose
to be burdened with it?
Will there be anyone endeared
to an idolized memory
of what we once did? A moment
of laughter, some solemnity
or shared sense of seriousness?
Or in the end, will it only matter
that I'd fallen into...
